50's Diner

Continuing to work on the layout of the scene, I'm really happy with the balance of straight and curved visual lines of the booths and counter as I think it makes it more pleasing to the eye. Along with the main lighting, I'm working on neon signs to help establish the 50's diner look. As of this update, I think that the sign on the left is too overexposed and the sign on the right is too underexposed. Another part of my next step in modeling this scene is to add more small props and details to continue pushing the more realistic look that I am aiming for with this project.

I started off by gathering some reference photos from Google of the 50's style diner look that I was going for. I've been to an old diner like these pictured here before when I went on a trip to Tennessee, but I needed a refresher on what they look like specifically. I love the checkered floor as I think that is a classic pattern for this era, but rather than going for really bold colors, I'd prefer to stick with a pastel color palette, like the one pictured here created in Adobe Color. So far, I've been working on the basic layout of the scene which included creating simple shapes to block out the furniture. Next step is to work on modeling the details so I can work on adding the texture maps after that.
